The role
Reporting to the Director, Operations and Rolling Stock, the Advisor, Operations Costing plays a crucial role in the financial planning of rail operations and assets for the Alto High Speed Rail project. They are responsible for overseeing the coordination of all operations costing and the development of various cost scenarios. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting principles and proven experience in the generation of pro forma statements in support of various scenarios.
The responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Private Development Partner (PDP) to capture operational costing data and serve as the primary point of contact for the Private Development Partner regarding operational costing.
- Collaborate with the Private Development Partner (PDP) to parametrize operating cost models.
- Assess operating cost models against benchmarks.
- Lead the development and create accounting pro-forma statements (profit & loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements) for various scenarios under consideration.
- Work with the Commercial Team and peers within the Operations and Maintenance Team to capture operational costing data, capital investments data, and revenue data to develop various scenarios.
- Develop briefing material for the executive team.
The requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Management Accounting or Financial Accounting.
- CPA designation is a key differentiator and strongly recommended.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in developing accounting pro-forma statements for scenario evaluation and for developing investment decisions.
- Strong aptitude in using excel to develop pro-forma accounting statements with an impeccable and meticulous approach in developing an excel environment for scenario evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting an on-going concern for accounting statements.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on accounting modelling.
- Effective communication skills are crucial for coordinating with the Private Development Partner, internal teams, and stakeholders. As well as briefing executives.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Being fluent in both Canadian official languages is desirable.
