Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge?  We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Building Information Modelling. Please note that the candidate may be based in one of our 3 offices: Toronto, Ottawa or Montreal.

 

The role

 

In this role, you will act as a senior technical advisor and subject matter expert, working within the Information Technology team and collaborating frequently with other teams and our Private Development Partner to advocate for Alto’s Building Information Modelling (BIM) needs and requirements. The core responsibilities of the BIM Senior Advisor would be to provide senior-level oversight on delivery, governance and innovation as it pertains to BIM processes, technology and industry best practices. The BIM senior advisor would be responsible for the collaborative development of and compliance with robust ISO 19650 information management frameworks throughout the ambitious project lifecycle. This role will contribute to larger initiatives including, but not limited to design, development, procurement and digital twin amongst others.

 

The responsibilities

 

  • Act as a subject matter expert for BIM strategy, methods, processes and technologies at Alto.
  • Collaborate to determine and advocate for Alto’s BIM-related requirements to determine long-term / full lifecycle requirements and alignment with industry best practice.
  • Collaborate with Alto’s project delivery and engineering teams and the Private Developer Partner in the development of ISO 19650 information requirements frameworks, supporting governance activities related to compliance with these requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and advisory support to Alto teams on BIM methods and technologies, and broader digital solutions, including contributions to digital twin initiatives and innovation program.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of digital best practices, including the full lifecycle of technology adoption in corporations and project delivery from gap assessment, requirements gathering and definition, business process mapping, solution vetting & procurement through to deployment / system operations & maintenance.
  • Contribute to the Information Technology team’s overall strategy of developing a world-class digital ecosystem by providing the best possible support to our system and software clients to ensure that the company and project can operate as efficiently and effectively as possible.


The requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, engineering, architectural engineering, construction management or a similar field. Master’s or graduate degree, certification or diploma in a discipline related to the role is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in design, cost management, logistics, and field installations related to Building Information Modeling (BIM), preferably with some experience related to the delivery of infrastructure / transportation infrastructure projects in a lead contractor or Authority team role.
  • Experience and working knowledge of industry standards e.g., ISO-19650, PS-1192 required and certification in ISO 19650, Institute for Asset Management or other relevant areas considered an asset.
  • Deep knowledge of BIM industry best practices, international and Canadian BIM standards, Virtual Design Construction (VDC), Digital Twin  
  • Good knowledge of related digital solutions such as GIS, Parametric Design and Automation, Information Management, Digital Surveying Concepts, and Asset Management. 
  • Deep knowledge of data architecture as it pertains to BIM – classifications, schemas, integration with other systems (ie: P6, cost forecasting tools for 4D (time) / 5D (cost) modelling)
  • Advanced knowledge of / experience working with administration of AutoDesk Construction Cloud / Forma and design software packages including, but not limited to, AutoDesk suite, Bentley, Revizto, Navisworks, etc.
  • First-hand experience with parametric modelling, automation, AI and other advanced applications of technology in BIM-related / digital context considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support ongoing collaboration with various stakeholders, advisors, partners
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual in English / French is considered an asset.
