Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge? We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Geospatial. Please note that the candidate may be based in one of our 4 offices: Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto or Ottawa.
The role
The duties of the Senior Geospatial Advisor are to support the Geographic Information System (GIS) function of the Information Technology team at Alto. Working closely with the Director of GIS, this role will support and lead tasks related to system administration of the ArcGIS and FME solutions, support user management and GIS help desk tasks. The role will also work closely with and collaborate with internal teams at Alto on Geospatial business requirements and support functions as well as with our Private Development Partner team, Cadence.
The responsibilities
- Support administration of ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, and FME environments, including configuration, monitoring, patching, and support.
- Support our partnership with Esri Canada and support disaster recovery, testing, release validation, and continuous improvement of geospatial systems.
- Support enterprise geodatabase design and management, data publishing, permissions, versioning, and integration workflows.
- Develop and enforce GIS governance standards, documentation, QA/QC procedures, and audit-ready operational records.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective geospatial solutions, coordinating with external delivery and development partners to align solutions with organizational standards and priorities.
- Provide advanced user support, issue triage, troubleshooting, and training for GIS platforms and workflows.
The requirements
- Minimum 8 to 10 years experience in field related to GIS & Geospatial Technology such as Computer Science, Geography, Planning, Data Science.
- Experience with use and administration of ArcGIS Suite - ArcGIS Pro (v3.5.1), Enterprise (v11.5+).
- Experience with use and administration of FME Form / Flow (v2025.1).
- Experience with relational databases, in particular PostgreSQL / PostGIS.
- Deep experience in relational databases, including versioning, development best practice, system integration (APIs, ETL, interoperability) and workflow automation (eg: FME, Python)
Additional Assets
- Masters / graduate degree, certification or diploma in discipline related to role
- Experience with / knowledge of ISO 19650, 19115, open formats / Open Geospatial Consortia
- Experience working with Government of Canada information security and sensitivity labelling standards
- Knowledge / awareness / experience working with GeoAI, business process analysis, workflow automation, data architecture
- Experience with innovation projects including experience contributing to the development of MVPs, POCs
- Excellent communication skills including documentation and note-taking skills
- Bilingual in English / French
