Senior Economist

Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge?  We are looking for a Senior Economist. 

 

The role

 

Reporting to the Senior Director, Commercial Policy, the Senior Economist will lead, coordinate and/or produce all economic studies and cost-benefit analysis required to support the advancement of the Toronto-Quebec City rapid train project, provide strategic advice, and prepare reports for the senior management team and the Board of Directors. The Senior Economist is also responsible for representing the organization in various public forums and the media.

 

The responsibilities

 

  • Model and analyze the impact of government policies and regulations at macroeconomic and microeconomic levels.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior management based on economic information and market research.
  • Evaluate the economic costs and benefits of the project.
  • Prepare detailed business cases for the project.
  • Advise on economic issues related to the project, including the impact on the local and national economy.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers and other stakeholders to understand the technical details of the Project and their economic impact.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, including government, investors, and the public.
  • Monitor economic trends and government policies that could affect the project.
  • Represent the organization in various public forums and the media, effectively communicating the economic aspects and benefits of the project.

 

The requirements

 

  • A master’s degree in economics, finance, or a related field. A Ph.D. degree in economics will be considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum 8 years experience in infrastructure economics or transportation economics.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills and ability to use data analysis software. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French, with the ability to give presentations in both official languages.
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in public speaking and media engagement is an asset.
