The role

 

Reporting to the Director of Financial Model and Analysis, the Analyst, Commercial will play a key role in supporting and driving the business case, and the commercial deal structuring and negotiation activities for ALTO (the Project). The role involves collaborating closely with the Private Developer Partner (PDP) and internal teams across various ALTO functions to manage the development of financial models, evaluate assumptions and outputs to support the development of delivery strategies, cost development and risk management. The individual will work closely with an integrated team across different ALTO functions (including technical, operations, legal, etc.).

 

The responsibilities

 

  • Conduct analysis in support of the development and negotiation of key contractual terms such as funding and financing provisions, payment mechanisms, KPIs and performance monitoring, risk sharing provisions, compensation on termination, etc.
  • Undertake market research and analyse market conditions, such as interest rate fluctuations, supply constraints, inflation and escalation to manage the contractual risks and apply the analysis into commercial structuring activities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, and external advisors and stakeholders on risk allocation, funding strategies, contracting and commercial terms and development of the business case.
  • Analyse project economics, forecasts and financial data to inform strategic project decisions.
  • Coordinate and track project risks, issues, and mitigations, working with legal, technical, and financial teams.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, detailed memos, reports, analysis and other materials for various stakeholders and Management teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of commercial decisions ensuring alignment with governance frameworks.
  • Prepare financial analysis and extract necessary information from complex financial models.

 

 

The requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in infrastructure, construction or consulting.
  • Understanding of infrastructure procurement models and commercial frameworks (i.e. P3s, Design-Build, Alliance, IPD, CMAR, Regulated Asset Base).
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates a proactive mindset and takes initiative to drive tasks forward independently, fosters collaboration, and deliver results in a fast-paced and evolving business environment. 
  • PMP Certification is an asset.

 

Key Competencies

 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, perform quantitative analysis, and generate actionable insights related to commercial structuring.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey commercial strategies in a clear and compelling manner to diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality. Strong ability to self-review and check work products produced by other stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
  • High Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and capabilities in data analysis and visualisation tools (i.e. Power Query, Alteryx, PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Independent thinker and self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is desirable.
