The role
The Senior Advisor, Media Relations and Spokesperson, reports to the Manager, Media Relations. The candidate is responsible for representing Alto with media and external stakeholders, as well as developing communications strategy. The person plays an active role in establishing key project messages, developing communications tools and producing content that is engaging and consistent with the audiences to which it is addressed. The person writes and regularly updates numerous communication products and documents for the Alto team and its partners.
Daily, the Senior Advisor creates the conditions necessary to increase public awareness of and support for the project, sustain the organization's good reputation, and inform and mobilize the Alto team thanks to a proactive and transparent approach based on a great ability to popularize complex content.
The responsibilities
- Proactively conduct frequent outreach to media representatives, including regular calls and follow-ups, to build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships.
- Coordinate media interview requests in both Québec and Ontario, acting as a key point of contact between journalists and internal stakeholders.
- Serve as a spokesperson when required, including giving interviews and representing the company with media and external audiences.
- Work closely with members of other teams within the company to support their communications needs (e.g. real estate, engineering, indigenous relations, commercial projects).
- Advise and support the organization's managers in their communications activities.
- Develop and implement communications strategies for various teams within the organization.
- Produce multiplatform content (e.g.: presentations, blog articles, internal memos, videos, info sheets, briefing notes, intranet content, etc.).
- Collaborate in the writing and editing of various communications products.
- Participate in the organization of events and meetings.
The requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or other relevant discipline.
- Minimum 8 years experience in corporate communications, including in media relations, and in preparing various communications products.
- Excellent verbal and writing skills (notes, texts, Powerpoint presentations, videos, etc.).
- Ability to popularize complex concepts and communicate clearly.
- Bilingualism (French and English), spoken and written.
- Ability to handle several files at once and adapt when priorities change.
- Analytical skills and attention to details.
- Experience working on a linear infrastructure development project or major commercial or industrial development project (an asset).
- Understanding of the specific realities of Indigenous communities in Canada (an asset).
- Knowledge of the public transit and rail transportation sectors and their specific issues (an asset).
- Knowledge of issues related to regulatory processes and social acceptability (an asset).
- Proficiency in technological and office automation tools (particularly the Microsoft suite).
- Understanding of the Ontario media ecosystem.
